A new home for Lewisham Hospital volunteers

Last weekend local volunteer network Help Lewisham Hospital moved into a new space in Ladywell. Team Catford heard about their need for a new space in April and quickly identified the ideal space within a vacant Council-owned building. Here they can continue to support NHS staff and vulnerable people across the borough.

Laurence Smith, who set up the network said ‘‘It's so good having this space. 1,500 meals were received and distributed with ease today. We now have 5,000 apples. 10,000 water bottles, 6,000 bags of crisps, and a few hundred smoothies in storage. Thanks to Team Catford for arranging all this!

Help Lewisham Hospital was set up at the beginning of lockdown to help source and distribute food and essentials to NHS staff who are working tirelessly at Lewisham Hospital. They have been a lifeline for people across Lewisham during the Covid-19 pandemic and have also been supporting other mutual aid groups in the borough. Usually busy with community engagement, pop-up events, Catford Cornucopia, Catford Food Market and Catford Chronicle, Team Catford has been looking for ways to support local voluntary networks throughout the coronavirus pandemic. We’re hugely grateful to Lewisham Hospital for caring for those among our community in recent times and happy to do our bit to support fantastic initiatives such as Help Lewisham Hospital.

If you’d like to donate / support - you can donate money here or visit their Facebook or Twitter pages to find out what food and essentials they are in need of.
