Catford; a greener town centre

The vision is for Catford to become one of the greenest town centres in London.

In addition to rerouting the South Circular, removing the gyratory and providing new pedestrian crossings, simplified road junctions and wider pavements will free up land and connect the Laurence House site with the civic hub and the town centre to the north and provide an opportunity to open up generous pedestrianised areas.

These areas will be framed with planting, trees and new buildings to create spaces that are accessible, allow natural light, offer shelter from the traffic and complement the new cultural and commercial spaces included in the plan. Sustainability is a guiding principle of the Framework Plan and all new homes built will be created with this green vision in mind.

The ecological corridor will be relinked to the River Pool Linear Park and Ladywell Fields, bringing nature to the heart of the town centre and part of our everyday experience. This will complete the gap in the open space and cycling network and relink the ecosystem through the site creating a quiet and calm residential neighbourhoods which will benefit the health and quality of life of the local community, as well as urban wildlife and ecology.
