Six ways to support Catford during the coronavirus pandemic

Government guidelines now only permit us to leave our homes for essential reasons. This is so we can slow the spread of coronavirus and protect the most vulnerable in our communities. At uncertain times like this, many of us will be wondering how we can help those in Catford’s community who are most in need and what we can do to continue to support local businesses. The sense of community spirit in Catford has always been strong and now is no different.

Here’s some ways that you can still still support the local community and businesses in Catford whilst maintaining social distancing.

  • Volunteer- Lewisham Local are looking for volunteers to help deliver food, leaflets and to telephone those in need of someone to talk to.
  • Donate to Lewisham Foodbank - food banks need support more now than ever as they struggle to provide for people in need. Donate money to Lewisham Food Bank here https://www.lewishamfoodbankappeal.co.uk/
  • Buy a membership for Catford Mews - whilst you’re unable to attend the cinema, make a promise to the cinema with community at its core that you will return in the future. There are a range of membership options here https://catford-mews.co.uk/membership/
  • Buy local - avoid panic buyers at big supermarkets and look closer to home for your groceries. Good Food on Sandhurst Parade is offering a cashless service for all your fruit, veg and deli needs.
  • Support businesses contactlessly - give your favourite salon or restaurant a boost by buying a voucher to use in the future or consider purchasing products online. Bottle Bar offers an online shop and contactless delivery service if you’re in need of your treasured tipple. Shop at Catford Cornucopia for Catford goodies with the added bonus of knowing that all profits go to Lewisham Foodbank , the 999 Club and the Sickle Cell Society .
  • Rate and review - give local, independent bars and restaurants a five-star rating to ensure people will flock there when they’re able. Every positive review improves their exposure and makes it more likely for others to come across them in the future.
  • Working together we can support and protect those most vulnerable during this coronavirus pandemic and learn to back our local businesses and restaurants in new and innovative ways. What do you think? Tell us about the ways you’re helping out in the community or nominate a person or business who is going above and beyond to help others.
