South East London’s Premier Gin Festival – Catford Gin Festival – 7th & 8th October 2017

Gin evokes many images, from Manhattan cocktail bars, to Hogarth’s ‘Gin Lane’, and, as of October of 2017; Catford.

Yes; Catford, with its giant fibreglass cat and its numerous pound shops, will, at least for one weekend, be the gin capital of the world.

The festival takes place in a vacant unit in one of London’s finest Brutalist shopping centres and is sponsored by Fever Tree, purveyors of the finest mixers.

Confirmed producers so far include Pothecary, Graveney, Skully, Ragnarok, Colonsay, Old Bakery, brand new to the market Mary Rose Gin and locally produced Mean London Dry.

Chris Rodgerson of Greenwich-based Mean Gin

“We’re incredibly excited about Catford Gin Festival – both the opportunity to be there at the beginning of something this exciting for the South London gin scene, and for local gin aficionados to have the chance to sample our gin and meet us in person!”

It’s not just established brands on show, Tom Cat Six, Catford’s very own brand of gin, will be launching at the event. London Dry style gins have led the way in gin’s 21st century revival, but Tom Cat Six is breathing new life into the Old Tom style of gin – Britain’s favourite 18th century tipple.

Charlotte Rose , who runs Forest Hill Gin Club and is an organiser, along with Team Catford, said :

'It’s going to be unlike any other gin festival. First, it’s only £15 which is a third of the price of most festivals. They sometimes have over 50 distillers, who could and should drink that many shots? Instead, we’ve selected award winning distillers who really know their craft and strive to make amazing gins.’

The ticket price includes entry to the festival, a branded copa balloon and four tokens to exchange with distillers for a taste of their gin. More tokens can be purchased throughout the day at a cost of just £3 each.

There will also be a gin cocktail bar, gin masterclasses, a gin shop and lip-smacking street food by Raastawala and Jerk Off BBQ.

The Catford Gin Festival takes place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of October at  2-3 Winslade Way , Catford Shopping Centre, Catford SE6 4JU
